I got the "Stay off the Carpets!" special quest in the castle zone. Although I failed the quest, the failure text did not show up and the quest pop-up stopped appearing. Once I returned to the academy, the quest pop-up telling me to stay off the carpets reappeared, then told me I failed after I stood on it.
Reproducing Glitch:
1. Enter/exit castle area until the "Stay off the Carpets!" special quest is assigned.
2. Fail the quest. If the failure text does not appear, then return to the academy.
3. Stand on a carpet.
I did have the illusion dust on my robe producing illusory doubles, and I have seen them take damage before from environmental effects like the swinging blades in the temple. If one happened to appear while I was on a carpet but before I jumped off, it might have counted as me for the quest. That's all that comes to mind as having been touching the carpet other than myself.
